Farmers Can't Keep up with Energy Costs

KSL has a story about how farmers are dealing with higher energy prices. Maybe by getting higher prices for their products.
From the article:
Leland Hogan, president of the Utah Farm Bureau Federation, said, "We can't keep up with the dollars that are necessary to pay the bills."
Really, when you are getting record prices for your corn is not the correct time to pander for even more subsidies.

If only everyone where as smart as us. I guess that is why people feel bad for them. Poor Farmers? I say poor us for getting screwed by oil and corn.

to take the farmers side (I'm from Idaho I should) I saw a piece on a farmer who had contracted his "bounty" not sure if it was corn or not for a certain price and now he is in the red with oil prices and still has a contract to keep, hum?

FYI, in Utah, we don't crow the corn that is used in ethanol, and as a state do not get money for that. There are different kinds of corn.

Also, it doesn't matter what the price you get is, if your inputs are just as much. Selling watermelons for $5,000 each doesn't do you any good if they cost $6,000 to produce. Oil, fertilizers, fuel, etc. have all gone up way beyond a farmers ability to pass costs along, recoup his costs, and make a profit.
